Myst, Might, Mayhem Wiki

Sima Chak is a minor supporting character in Myst, Might, Mayhem, acting as a predecessor of the old murim, and appearing throughout the series.

History[]

After the events of Absolute Sword Sense, Sima Chak lived a relatively peaceful life for several years, often visiting his daughter and granddaughter. These visits brought him great joy, especially because his granddaughter, Jin Ryeong-ah, bore a striking resemblance to his late wife. This resemblance was the primary reason Sima Chak declined his son-in-law's offer to join the Dohwaseon.

Over time, Sima Chak eventually met his granddaughter’s close guardian, Ha-Yoon, who had been gifted with the Moonless Void Sword scripture after Sima Chak deemed himself unable to protect Ryeong-ah. Sima Chak, now older and wiser, withdrew into isolation to train further, keeping in contact only with Ryeong-ah. During his time away, he also met his great-granddaughter for the first time and witnessed the remarkable growth of Ha-Yoon, who vowed to protect her at any cost.

However, years later, during the Great Calamity Sima Chak was drawn back into the world when he sensed something ominous. Thanks to years of isolated training, he had reached a higher martial realm, allowing him to perceive the disturbance. He arrived too late to save Ryeong-ah and Ha-Yoon, finding their bodies. It was clear that Ha-Yoon had fought valiantly to protect Ryeong-ah, but had ultimately failed, dying with deep resentment. Sima Chak, with his newly gained spiritual vision, was able to communicate with Ha-Yoon's vengeful spirit and learned of the terrible events that had occurred.

Determined to seek justice, Sima Chak rushed to confront the Blood Cult and find the remaining descendants of Jin Woon-Hwi. He arrived just in time to stop an unknown master from attacking the remaining survivors. In a fierce battle, Sima Chak's overwhelming power easily crushed the enemy, forcing him to retreat.

After this tragic series of events, Sima Chak dedicated himself to searching for his missing great-granddaughter and uncovering the culprits behind the attack. His search was long and arduous, spanning many years. Along the way, he continued to visit the vengeful spirit of Ha-Yoon, and ironically, they formed a bond over time, becoming unlikely friends after Ha-Yoon's death.

During one of his visits to the vengeful spirit of Ha-Yoon, Sima Chak encountered a young man, Mok Gyeongwoon. Unintentionally, Mok Gyeongwoon had played a role in resolving part of Ha-Yoon’s grudge, which had been fueled by the local government’s massive crimes against civilians. After observing Mok Gyeongwoon's personality and potential, Sima Chak was amazed by the young man’s abilities. Recognizing the fate that had brought them together, the Wicked Moon Sword decided to reward him for his remarkable potential.

His talent alone would make even that fellow pale in comparison.

Sima Chak believed their meeting was guided by destiny, and he saw in Mok Gyeongwoon a talented individual, much like the boy with the Yokai Sword he had encountered on the boat in the distant past. In an act of mentorship, Sima Chak presented him with his ultimate version of the Moonless Void Sword—an evolution inspired by a move Jin Woon-Hwi had copied from the Sword Immortal during their duel.

It’s a truly coincidental and mysterious thing. To see such talent on a boat like this again. I seem to have unintentionally made you wary, but I just wanted to express my gratitude. So I want to make a small repayment for this gratitude and connection.

Sima Chak, to Mok Gyeongwoon

This encounter inspired Mok Gyeongwoon to refine and evolve the Moonless Void Sword into the Demon Sword Arts, a powerful martial technique that would later become central to his identity as the Heavenly Demon. As a result of this training, Mok Gyeongwoon was regarded by those connected to Jin Woon-Hwi as a disciple of Sima Chak, marking a significant moment in both of their paths.

Dam Baek-ha, to Mok Gyeongwoon

After years of searching, Sima Chak eventually discovered that the true culprit behind the cataclysm that ended the Old Murim Era was none other than Mokgan. Though he failed to locate his great-granddaughter, he did find and rescue her descendant, Jin Ye-Rin, during the final war.

I’ve finally found you.

Sima Chak, to Jin Ye-Rin

In the climactic battle - where the forces of humanity, aided by the Golden-Haired Gumiho, clashed against the Three Great Yokai - Sima Chak lent his strength to the fight as best as his power allowed. Despite his immense might, he stood no chance against the Lion Demon King alone.

Just as death seemed inevitable for both him and Jin Ye-Rin, Jin Woo-Hwi descended briefly, wielding but a fraction of his true power. That fleeting moment was enough to utterly annihilate the Lion Demon King, saving both his father-in-law and his descendant.

If I just keep watching, I feel like I’ll hear Young‘s resentment.

Jin Woon-Hwi, to Jin Ye-Rin

His fate after the war remains shrouded in mystery. Only one thing is certain: after years of separation, he was finally reunited with his last remaining family in the mortal realm - Jin Ye-Rin. What transpired afterward, however, is unknown.

Throughout his journey, he stood on the verge of reaching the Heavenly Master Realm, becoming one with Mother Nature. Given this - along with his vast knowledge of both martial arts and the energy of the world - it is possible that he ultimately ascended.

However, there is another possibility: after guiding and aiding Jin Ye-Rin, he may have passed away, joining his beloved wife in death. Thus, his ultimate destiny remains uncertain.

Martial Realm[]

He was at the Peak Profound/Mystic Realm at the time of Absolute Sword Sense, and in this work, he appears to have surpassed the Life-Death Realm. This is because when other people saw it, it seemed as if it had assimilated into the surrounding objects.

However, the fact that he was unable to use the Heart Sword, it appears that he only came closest to the Natural Realm and did not reach that realm.
